What general ed classes do you recommend to a freshman?
And do you have any advice specific to freshman? Thanks :)

Take your English Composition course (English 111/121/131) in the autumn. It won’t be offered in such variety again until spring quarter. If you’re anything but a fine arts major, then take VLPA course. Those seem to be the hardest to find and schedule, so try to knock away graduation credits early if you can so that you can focus on your major. Avoid taking 18 credits. It’s your first quarter at the UW; you have time to load up your schedule with a lot of “juicy,” time-consuming courses later on in your academic career. Ease yourself into the college life, and try to have fun. Join some clubs; go to sports events (aka join the Dawg Pack for football); explore the area; socialize as much as you can, and make friends because this is the largest opportunity in the year when essentially everyone is open to making new friendships. Make use of the money that you’re putting towards your education. It’s just like eating food; why go to an all-you-can-eat buffet if you’re only going to have a salad?!

Do you know what major you might want to pursue? Some of them have prereqs (engineering has tons so don’t expect to start in your 2/3 yr, and business school has them too) so you might want to tackle those. Like say math 120/124 etc or chem 142 or econ 200. Otherwise pick a subject you might want to explore like Psych/sociology/art history. Foreign language is great too.
