Does anyone know the legacy admit rate at Cornell?

Is it true that they don’t give any weight to your legacy status if you don’t apply ED?

If my father went to the Arts and Science School, does that make me a legacy only there or at all the schools at Cornell?

How does Cornell business/economics compare to Duke economics in terms of education and recruiting?

I don't think it really matters that much unless he donates a significant amount of money...From what I know, legacy status is more of a tie breaker between applicants, but maybe I'm wrong.

I think I read somewhere that 10% of students at Cornell are legacy students . . . . However, like someone said, don't count on legacy being the thing that gets you in.

i think it's more like 15%, and that it's a bit more than just a tie breaker. You can be below par in an area and have legacy make up for it. But yeah, legacies aren't under-qualified usually. Unless your dad built a building or something you still have to be mostly up to snuff. I feel like my legacy status made up for the 3.34 unweighted GPA, but I had a 1480 and good ECs to back it up. In other words, I, and the adcom, know I'll be able to succeed there.

Your legacy counts at any college or school within cornell. Legacy doesn't NOT count if you apply RD but it will help you out much more if you apply ED. Theres a differece between "I want to go here and i'm a legacy" and "my dad made my apply" that is sort of seen between ED and RD when it comes to legacy status. Not saying it's impossible to get in RD, i'm just saying it would be more entirely on your own merits.

I'd say it's a boost ED and a tie-breaker RD. None of us knows for sure though, since we're not on the adcom.

I don't know about cornell vs. duke econ, but you couldn't go wrong either way. Unless theres a really significant difference in program qualities, atmosphere is more important to your success at the school. Be assured though, that if we outrank duke, we'll rub it in though lol.
