As most college students suggest, I prefer to make my final decision after experiencing the atmosphere of the college I possibly might attend. However, I live in an area where transportion is very limited. I have to transfer flights 2 times in order to visit one college. Is it possible for me to pay deposit at about four colleges and make the ultimate final decision after i make college visit after my senior year? Am I subject to attend a school after paying the deposit and applying for the university housing?(I realize that the deposit will not be refunded if I choose not to attend.)

Is it possible to accept 4 contracts for admission (denying space to those on the waiting list, BTW) and then renege on 3 of the contracts?

Yes it is possible. Is it ethical? No. Will there be consequences? I hope so! Can the school you finally settle on kick you out if they find out what you did? Probably, because the enrollment letter you sign with each school is going to require you to decline admission to all other schools.

A related question: is it possible to sign contracts to buy 4 cars, put down a deposit, but only take delivery of one of them (forfeiting the deposit, of course)?

I don't think so it is possible. Many colleges will rescind their offer of admissions if they learned you paid the deposit to more than one college.

I don't think you're supposed to do this, but I can't see how the colleges will find out. Also as mikemac said, it's not very ethical, and also, you're not going to get your deposit back if u decide not to stay.

I know a girl from my school who did this a few years back. She didn't get kicked out, but the other schools were very upset with her and with our school as well. It's unethical, and also risky - I wouldn't advise it.

IF you make a deposit at one school with full intentions of going there, and then something happens and you have to switch, and you fairly notify the schools of the change, it shouldn't be an issue, BUT if you do it just for what reason....what IS the reason

I know some do it to guarantee housing...

My D sent in hers to her EA school, which she will most likely attend unless by some miracle an RD school give her a full ride, then circumstances have changed

But we wouldn't do it JUST to guarantee housing

its a spot they could give to someone else and by the time you make a decision it'll be to late.
