About Pre-Reqs before Transfering to UCSD

Hello, I am new to this forum but I have been searching around for info to my questions and etc.

I've asked friends and fellow classmates but it isn't very consistent.

Here is my situation. I had just finished first year at CC and plan to apply to transfer to UCSD for Fall 2011 into the Pharm. Chem major. So I am now in second year of CC. I did the english classes and I will have finished IGETC before Spring 2011 but not all of my pre requisites...

I will finish General chemistry, the bio courses, econ that was needed, all of chem and Differential equations but I will not have started 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year physics.

I was advised to take physics 1 and 2 before transferring but I had to do the pre reqs for math and chem classes and if I add physics I think it will be too much of a work load for me and I did not want to bring down my GPA.

I will have more than 60 units. I will have TAG when I apply and I have a good GPA 3.5

So my question is: Will I have any chance of getting into UCSD without taking any physics?

Thank you.

If you TAG then you’re guaranteed admission, as long as it’s not an impacted major. You will be fine.

You’re not guaranteed admission into the major of your choice, but you should still get in with IGETC certification. Major prerequisites are recommended, not required. If you haven’t finished them all, you’ll have “pre-major” status in most cases.

Yes, a transfer to UCSD just clasrified this to me today. Colleges recommend you complete as much of the major preparation ad possible, but it is not mandatory. All you NEED is a 3.0 minimum and 60 units, which includes completion of IGETC.

:)

thank you so much for your help guys. I will continue and apply this year for Fall '11 :D

You’ll be fine, just make sure you finish IGETC and do as many pre-reqs as possible, physics is not a must. I was accepted to LA, SB, Irvine, and SD as a Bio major with a 3.25 and no physics taken and not even all bio pre-reqs done (hard to do when they all require different ones). You should be fine because I’m fairly certain this is not an impacted major and UCSD is fairly lax when it comes to transfer admissions.

You will get in but won’t be able to take p-chem and any classes that requires p-chem until your senior year. But you will get in though with TAG. I wouldn’t recommend staying another year in your situation though since you finished g-chem, o-chem, and math.

You should also look into: Pharmacology at UCSB and Pharmaceutical Sciences at UCI (now Tag-able). You can TAG them if you meet the pre-reqs.

Pharmacological Chem at UCSD is just biochemistry + like 2 pharmacology classes.
Pharmacology at UCSB is like biology + 1 year of pharmacology (has lab and lecture)
Pharmaceutical Sciences covers pharmacology, med. chem, pharmacotherapy, and pharmaceutics (a lot of the topics covered in a pharmd program)
