About References and letters

I am applying for some internships that require letters of recommendation. I'm a freshman in college, so my pool of professors to use is pretty small. One professor could probably write a decent letter, given that I got an A and she knows my name and some background. However, my high school teachers might have more nice things to say about me, but I'm not sure if comments from them would be as impressive. So where is the balance? I'm just concerned that lacking contacts at my university could reflect poorly on me.
