I'm thinking about applying to Rice as it's on the CommonApp which i've already filled out. Can anyone tell me how good Rice is in engineering? Also, how difficult is it to get in?

Rice has been historically known for very strong engineering and other science programs. Part of what makes it so strong is the overall undergraduate experience as well. However, Rice is very hard to get into. Are you from Texas or not? The chances of getting in from out of state are much higher.

I am not from texas, so i'll be out of state :)

so exactly how hard IS it to get in from texas?

I think the acceptance rate is about 19% for in-state.

Then i'll apply. Should be easier than Stanford which just deferred me :(

A bit easier, yea. At least for being out of state haha

Stanford is harder to get into than Rice for a Texan. :) Rice is a good choice for biomedical engineering because the Houston Medical Center is a few blocks away and I think there are alot of opportunities there. I went to a presentation on Rice's engineering programs and I have to say that I wasn't impressed by the speaking skills of any of the professors except for the Computer Science department head, but that doesn't really indicate the strength of the program. What kind of engineering are you interested in?

Either bioengineering or electrical engineering.

Make sure you take your time with the short answers and essay. Good luck RD--

V. strong in both EE and Bioeng. Renowned profs and research.
