About SAT subject tests

I have several questions, would appreciate some help -

Can someone tell me the difference between subject SAT math I and math II?

Last weekend, we have signed D. up to take US history test in June. We didn't know about the automatic reports. Is it true that we can ask the scores to be sent to several colleges for free? Is it too late for us to do that now since we've signed her up already?

Thank you.

Here’s a link to descriptions from Collegeboard explaining each test. There is a tab for ‘Anticipated Skills’ as well as ‘Topics on the Test’. Looking at these for each Math 1 & 2 should give you an idea of which is better for your D. Keep in mind that the curve on Math 1 is much harsher (i.e. if you miss a few much lower score) vs. a more generous curve on Math 2 (i.e. you can miss more and get a higher score). The biggest problem kids have with Math 2 is actually finishing the test so they loose points for unanswered questions. Doing a series of practice tests ahead of time to get down timing can be very helpful.

You do have the option of sending four free score reports when you sign up for the test. There is a period of time afterwards that you can still go in and designate the four free recipients, in fact we generally get email reminders when we haven’t. I’m not sure when the cut off is.

There’s an answer to your 1st question in post 1504 on this thread:

I think you get until a few days after taking the test to make score report changes. After that, they are locked in.

Generally the timing on the free reports is that it’s fixed so that you won’t see the results before you send them. If you KNOW your child is applying to a certain school AND that school requires all tests sent it’s worth sending before seeing. But this point you probably don’t know if your child wants to send ACT scores or CB scores, so if it were me, I’d not use the free reports. Not to mention that you’d have to update for later tests in any event.
