<p>For the new SAT, is the 1000 SAT word list good enough or do I have to study the 5000 word list? I am shooting for 2350+. </p>

<p>You don't need to memorize vocab for the new sat. I didn't study one word and the only word I didn't know on the sentence completions i was able to select bc of process of elimination.</p>
<p>Vocabulary isn't as crucial now that analogies have been removed from the SAT. If I was going to study anything, I'd learn a list of commonly used affixes. That way, when you see a word on the test that you don't recognize, you can get a general idea of its meaning from any prefixes or suffixes + its root.</p>

<p>i tried to memorize alot of vocab words, but gave up on it. Its rather difficult to remember vocab words if u dont use them frequently..i know u cant use all of them frequently..for exampl: xenophobic, synchophant etc..but u could try and use other words...There's this book called UP YOUR SCORE, which is written by five guys who aced the SAT..trust me, the book is hilarious esp the vocab section.they give u a list of about 500 words with a definition and a sample sentence..the sentences are hilarious and will help u remember the word..ex: bawdy: obscene, coarse sentence: "Most bawdy jokes have to do with certain parts of the body."--Up your score I found this book helpful and it wasnt just another boring test prep book..</p>

<p>So it is a waste of time to memorize vocab when trying to get an 800 on CR? I am almost positive that my 3 mistakes that brought me down to 770 were all sentence completions.</p>
<p>Flipsta: when u are on that level, memorizing vocab will be a good thing... but then again I dont know why youre not happy with a 770</p>
<p>I'm memorizing vocab since English isn't my 2nd language, and I don't know a lot of vocabs yet (even though I've lived here for 4 years already, what a shame!). What I'm doing right now is making 20 flashcards everyday from SparkNote's 1000 vocab list, and review the old ones everyday. I'm not sure how this works, but so far it's working for me (even though I haven't made a lot of cards). SparkNote one is quite helpful because it gives you the sample sentence for each vocab. I think 5000 ones are way too much, and it doesn't really say "SAT vocabs" on that list, right? So I would probably glance at them instead of making flash cards.</p>
<p>However, I think this is really up to your vocab, so you might not need to memorize at all!</p>
<p>heh, I guess I should have said that English is my second language,,,,so thats why it is necessary for me to study vocab. But since the new SAT doesn't have the analogy section, I guess i'll just study the 1000 word list and study a few from the 5000 list each day. Once again, thanks for all your inputs! <p>From the sample questions and tests I've been reading, yes, you'll be asked to determine the meanings of words. Also, you will want to try to have a few decent words in your essay.</p>
<p>btw, if you're planning on using Gruber's, i would recommend against it: it has had a lot of mistakes, and a substantial amount of its definitions are not geared towards the SAT. . .</p>
<p>another good idea would be to memorize word roots, as they can help you figure out if the word is 'positive' or 'negative'</p>
