hi, I am an international student who will take take summer session in UCB. I am seeking for housing from June 20 to August 15. Can anyone tell me how about these hall: International house, Residence Halls Unit 1 and Residence Hall Unit 2? Which one is better? How about those housing provided by Berkeley Student Cooperative, is it better than those hall in campus? Are there any other good choice for housing arrangement?
THANK YOU!

The easiest housing would be either Unit 1/2 or I-house. Unit 1 and Unit 2 are basically the same thing and you are not allowed to pick (Unit 1 is only used once Unit 2 is filled up). You just play, show up, and everything will be taken care of. I don’t know about I-house (no experience), but the Units are pretty well maintained even though they are old. I think the units would provide for a good social atmosphere (there are usually a lot of visiting students both internationally and domestically) but they are a bit pricey.

I don’t know much of the cooperatives but from what I hear, it really depends on which cooperative you live in.

You can also go to [url=http://www.craigslist.com]craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums/url and look for apartment sublets for the summer.

on the website, it is said that summer student will be assigned a room in units 2. is it good?
how about food there? thx~

I’m staying in the co-ops over summer. You should definitely check them out. They’re spacious and pretty cheap over summer. Here:

Landlords in Berkeley lease by the year, but with many students away for the summer, there are tons of summer subleases to choose from.

but where can find the information of subleases? any website?

If you’re an international student, I think I-House is probably the best choice. You’ll be surrounded by other international students who can help you out and you can bond with. Subleasing can be a huge hassle (potentially) and if I were going to a foreign country for the first time, I’d try to reduce the amount of things that can go wrong.

Edit: Unit1/2 is fine too, food is okay
