About Supplementary Material...

I hope you guys can answer.

1) Does it really give an edge?

2) Although MIT provides Part 2 application online, it is impossible to send your supp material online, unless it is an essay, which you can type online using the provided text box. Does this mean i have to send Part 2 via snail mail?

3)If I have to send Part2 via mail, can I still submit part 1 online, or do they have to be both via postal mail?

Thanks.

You can send any supplemental materials through the mail, even if you submit your application online. Just be sure to include your name and birthdate on the materials you send through the mail (I think that's what Ben said was necessary to match it up with the right person).

If supplementary material is important to understanding who you are and why you might be a good candidate for MIT, then sure it's useful. Will people who send in supplementary material automatically have a leg up on other applicants who do not? No.

What is the correct way to send an art supplement? A C-D with pictures of the art pieces or slides??

I'm sure a CD is fine, a number of '09 applicants did that. If you already have pictures of the art posted on a website somewhere, you could refer to the URL in your application question responses (which would give you an easy opportunity to put the work in context, talk more about its meaning for you, etc).
