about TAG

I don't know anything about this so please help me out...
so I'm interested in getting TAG to UCSD from Pasadena City College
but is it just possible to write TAG to UCSD if one wants to?
I know you have to meet the requirements and things to "finish" the TAG
but what about writing TAG in the first place?
on PCC's website, it says "A TAA/TAG may be written after the student has completed at least 30 semester units of transferable coursework." So does this mean anyone with at least 30 semester units can write TAG?
but it seems too good to be true because if anyone can write TAG, wouldn't everyone write TAG to the best college out of the ones provided? (so like UCSD instead of UCR)
so how do CCs decide who gets to write TAG to certain schools??

anyone can sign TAG as long as they meet the GPA requirement, finish most or all of your major pre-reqs, and IGETC [not 100% sure if IGETC is required, but i think so].

and yeah, you need at least 30 completed units to sign it

TAGs sound like an easy process but they’re not. They have intense paperwork that your counselor has to complete, have people sign before sending it to the UC of your choice. I had a TAG for UC Davis which took me a month to see go through. You as the student have to take sole responsibility at nagging your counselor and asking questions.

It’s not as easy as a process, and most students don’t take advantage of it because they don’t know about it or they can’t accept the “contract” because that’s what it is.

Good luck with everything! [:

^^really?

that wasn’t my experience at all. I thought it was a really easy and simple process. I printed out my TAG form from home, completed it in 20 minutes (not really intense paperwork) and turned it into my counselor. He made a couple simple corrections and that was that. I got verification of my TAG the first day they released them and all I had to do was stick to my plan that I put on the TAG and get above a 3.0 (not really that hard to do)

maybe our schools have different protocol for the TAG programs.

you can check out the form you need to fill out at UCD’s transfer website (or just search TAG program)

My experience was similar to 652316541’s. Instead of giving it to a counselor, I gave it to a UCI rep at my school’s transfer center though.

so once you fill out the TAG form and your counselor approve it, are you pretty much guaranteed that the contract is placed?
or is there a chance the UC might reject the paperwork?

and if it differs by colleges, does anyone know if PCC is lenient on this like 652316541’s?

you’re not guaranteed once your counselor approves it but when UCSD does (or whatever school you have it w/). Your schools sends all the TAG requests to UCSD and they verify that you will: 1) have enough units 2) have a high enough GPA 3) complete IGETC and any major requirements.

They determine this by the plan you outline from them on the TAG form. If your GPA falls below their minimum for a given semester, they can rescind the agreement of guarantee.

I filled my TAG out in Summer 08 and I got verification in Fall 08 (on the TAG website). They pretty much say “congratulations! your TAG has been accepted. Just complete the remaining major requirements and stick to the plan you outlined on your TAG form”.

do you have to finish igetc before signing the tag?

damn i can’t finish it before the end of next fall quarter

wasnt TAG for UCSD this year was just to finish the IGETC and have a 3.0+ gpa??

from my understanding, you didn’t have to sign anything for tag. All it required was finishing the requirements and checking the box on the application

alright thats good, pretty much solidifies my acceptance…i hope…coz it is a “guarantee”…
was this the first year??

Yeah, my CC has an extensive process. Not only does the Honor’s Counselor has to sign it, but then the Transfer Counselor (who is never on campus…-.-) and she goes over it all twice…and THEN finally they send it to the campus. It sucks because we only have that one honors counselor who probably is the only one who knows how to fill out that thing. Oh, and I think I took longer because she had to do my IGETC as well.

TAG is completed after 30 units are out of the way, and another 30 by the time the year is up. I completed it on my second year.

Best of luck!

ok what im wondering is TAG still valid if didn’t finish the pre-reqs for my major. im missing 2 math classes because i took different calc classes. i have igetc done

^
TAG is completely separate from that. As long as you complete the required 60 units prior to transfer and the Requirements from the UCs (such as the 2 English Compositions courses, but since you have IGETC done, then I’m sure you have).

i finished english 1a, 1c, and now taking 1b

for math i finished interim algebra, college algebra, stats, biz calc 1, biz calc 2

So if a TAA required MATH 1A & 1B, EWRT 1A & 1B, and ACCT 1A & 1B & 1C, but I hadn’t yet finished ACCT 1B & 1C, would I not be able to sign a TAA, or would I just need to have these two finished by the Spring prior to transferring?
