About that "required question #1)...how long should it be?

Maybe i'm missing this somehow but this first question:
How does the University of Chicago, as you know it now, satisfy your desire for a particular kind of learning, community, and future? Please address with some specificity your own wishes and how they relate to UChicago.

How long should it be? 100 words? 400 words? 600? i just have no context on this....

No limit. Say what you need to say.

worst possible answer. LOL…I like having the parameters…okay, sounds good…and I appreciate your help!

Is it the “Why Chicago” essay?

Generally between one page (500) and two pages (1000) should be fine.

From Grace Chapin, UChicago admissions rep:
“It is a good idea to keep your essays around 500 words (per essay, don’t worry, you don’t have to spread 500 words across three separate pieces). Less is totally fine, so long as you feel you’ve accurately represented yourself in those words; please be cautious with longer essays. While a little bit over is acceptable, for our sanity while reading (and the sake of showing us that you can edit and be brief-- a very important UChicago skill), please try not to greatly exceed the 500 word suggested limit.”

Yes, around 500 will be ideal.

But do not sacrifice your flow just because of the word limit. If you need 750 to clearly and passionately express yourself do it. I remember my D’s “Why Chicago” was one page and an half long.
