About the average GPA listed in UC Websites

Hi. I have a question about the average GPA listed in UC websites,
such as this one
University of California - Admissions
When it's talking about Average High School GPA, is it talking about just weighted gpa, or UC GPA.
If it's UC GPA, how do I calculate it?
thx!

anyone have answers for me?

It is referring to the UC Weighted GPA.

Calculating is pretty difficult... all APs are weighted, only some honors are weighted, and there seems to be a limit to the number of courses that can count as "weighted" per semester or year.

I'd ask your counselor for some help...

wow, that sucks :-

is it including out of staters? i'm guessing yes?

Yes, including out-of-staters. The UC gpa is your 10th and 11th grade UC-approved courses only. You get 1 extra semester gpa point per AP and APPROVED (it MUST be designated as getting extra weight on your school's course list) honors course, up to 8 extra points. Only two AP or honors courses in 10th grade get extra weight.

First go here: https://doorways.ucop.edu/list/servlet.jsf;jsessionid=2678D2D085512D68B35FA04CB60ADB94?_flowExecutionKey=_cB32E5399-0087-6754-D090-71DFF20DAD9D_k2956A858-52E4-994D-5C46-04DBCECCBB7E , find your high school, and find out which of your 10th and 11th grade courses are UC-approved. Make a list of your courses, semester grades, and which are AP and UC-approved for honors (very few are - none at my daughter's school, in fact). As you are all intellegent, college-bound students, I trust that you can then add up the points (A=4, B=3...) add your extra gpa pts (up to 8) and divide by the number of semester grades you added up. Ta-da! Your UC gpa.

Here are the official UC instructions (scroll down a bit): http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/scholarship_reqs.html

Here is a calculator from CaliforniaColleges.edu to assist you: CaliforniaColleges.edu - Calculating Your GPA

Out of state students may only give AP courses (not honors - because your school has no approved course list) extra weight, and must have a minimum 3.4 UC gpa to apply.

KyleDavid80 has made the excellent observation that some of the UC admissions profiles have an inflated gpa figure because many California students use the lower 6 UCs as safeties for the top three (UCB, UCLA, UCSD), and that your chances at those six (UCI, UCD, UCR, UCSC, UCSB and UCM) may be a bit better than it appears from the statistics.

Good luck!
