I believe that means write about how did I earn respect for MY differences(how I am different). However my counselor thinks it means write about how I learned to respect OTHER PEOPLE's differences. So who is correct?

There are two parts:

How you gained respect for others' differences.

How you would contribute to the UMich's diversity.

The hard part is connecting the two in less than 250 words.

At least that's how I interpreted it.

i agree i think the first part doesnt have to be about yourself but the second part does

yeah, otherwise it might turn into a "sob-story" about how tough you had it (even if that wasn't your original intention). i think they want to know how you learned to respect others' differences.

i dont no like monkeyjoints two part answer. its more like how you personally will create diversity to michigan
