I am a high school graduate about to attend UCI. I've entered in my info using this tool: UCI Testing Office and it tells me that computer science majors need to take the physics 7c test (more specifically I'm going into computer game science). I've signed up for the one on the 18th (strange it says it is the physics 7 test, without the C). I barely passed ap physics b with a 3 and I did not take ap physics c test (But I took both classes and received decent grades). I am probably not even taking a physics course in my first year at UCI (definitely not my first quarter). So what's the deal? Should I even take this test (I suppose so because it's free, but I live an hour away and it might be too much trouble)? If I should take this test do you know if it is easy? I am great with kinematics and vectors but horrible with electricity and magnetism stuff. Thanks.

If you are a Computer GAME Science major, you are not required to take the placement test for Physics 7c. That requirement is ONLY for straight Computer Science majors. You don’t need to take the test.

You are probably right. Thanks. How did you know this anyway?

I called up the testing center and the woman said if I don’t see physics 7 in my requirements in the general catalogue I do not have to take the placement test. I don’t see a “physics 7” anywhere here:

I’ve heard the test was quite easy anyway. But there is absolutely no benefit in me taking it right?

My daughter is an ICS major, there was something along the way that told her the testing requirements. Have you attended SPOP yet and had advising? These are great questions for your advisor.

But yes, I am very sure, that for your major (if that is what you are enrolled in, Computer Game Science), there is no REQUIREMENT that you take the Physics placement test.

My SPOP is on the 25th so I haven’t had a chance to ask questions yet. Anyway, I canceled the test because of your advice and you were right. I managed to contact the testing office once more and the lady confirmed that computer game science majors did not require physics 7. Thanks. As you can see I really dislike physics.

No problem, happy to help! Have a great time at your SPOP!
