About the Pre-Orientation Date

Hello everyone, I just got accepted by Pitt (Pittsburgh campus). Since I’m an international student, I was told that I had to attend a mandatory pre-orientation. So does anyone know about when that will be?
No need to be exact, I just want to have a general idea about the date so I can book my ticket in advance. Pitt admission said the finalized date will be sent to me in July but by then it’ll be really hard to book any flight in August. Thanks.

D’s roommate was from China. I believe that the international student orientation is 1-2 weeks before the fall semester classes start.

Thanks for responding. Btw may I ask how your daughter found her roommate? Nobody in my HS is going to Pitt this fall, so I really don’t know what to do. Is there a post on the forum, an app, or a group chat where people can ask if anyone wants to be roommates?

They were matched by Pitt. D applied to late for the Engineering LLC, but she selected Forbes Hall (Engineering LLC dorm) anyway and got a room. Your best bet is probably to search Reddit if you want to match with a roommate ahead of the housing decisions.

I would also recommend looking into the LLCs (Living Learning Communities). These are designed to allow students with similar interests to live in the same dorm (or section of a larger dorm) and typically include themed social events. I can’t speak for all of them, but the Engineering LLC worked our really well for D. It’s a much smaller dorm compared to the Litchfield Towers, and all the students are Freshmen engineers, making it really easy to find people to study with.

Anyone reading this post looking for roommates?

I believe that there is a Facebook group - Pitt Class of 2023 - that many are using to find roommates. Pitt also will send info (once you complete housing contract) about an app called Roomsync which also helps make roommate matches.

Thanks for letting me know. I’m in that group now but haven’t posted anything yet. Want to wait till I finish my AP tests.
