About the Preview Weekend

Do you have to stay for all 4 days? Can you arrive late or leave early?

MIT Preview Weekend vs. Senior Class Disney World Trip

hmmmmm....

I don't know the answer to your question, but I can sympathize with your conflicts. My senior prom is April 8, but I'm visiting MIT anyway.

You can arrive any time you like, and leave any time you like.

Hamster,

Wo Wo Wo Wo... Missing senior prom?? =( I don't know about that...

But I'm probably a little biased because I am planning the senior prom for my class... =P

Mootmom,

Really? I thought there was a strict agenda that everyone has to follow. From "checkin" on the 6th to "checkout" on the 9th.

-- Chen

Is it worth going if I've already visited? I've heard that you don't really learn what it's actually like...

Lol Chen. I don't really care about prom at all... I went last year and didn't have a very good time, so I'm actually glad to have a good excuse not to go. My friends aren't too happy about it, though. I've never been to Boston/Cambridge or even the Northeast so I'm excited about visiting.

Hamster,

That's understandable... =) Boston is awesome. Been there twice.

What's ur name?

-- Chen

No, Chen. There is a schedule of events that you may attend (and some you will surely want to attend). You may check in as early as Thurs. morning, and check out as late as Sun. afternoon, but people can and do show up as late as Sat. and leave as early as Fri. (I wouldn't recommend either scenario, but it's your choice.)

You do need to check in, however, as you'll receive a packet of info which includes your host information (which you'll also get ahead of time), a schedule of activites, maps, flyers, lists of classes you can sit in on, etc., and some other goodies. Last year, among the dozen or so students I knew who attended CPW, most arrived on Thurs. or early Fri., moved in with their host, and started going to classes right away. All of them had been on campus before, but had not spent as much time attending classes or touring dorms. Or hanging out with Actual Current Students. You could show up and do nothing at all, but that wouldn't be very worthwhile. With the exception of a few events that pretty much all the students are likely to attend, there's nothing expected of you, and definintely no "strict agenda"! :)

Yeah, they're putting on a party for you, and the campus isn't always like that. But it's a great party, and there is an opportunity to sample classes (my son wanted to be sure, for instance, that literature and math classes were both of the quality he'd be satisfied with), and to just hang out. Plus they usually manage to turn on the "special weather machine" to produce a long weekend of lovely spring weather... after which it promptly snows again. ;)

Thanks mootmom! =)

yupp thanks!

So if we were to follow the schedule nicely (arriving on time indicated on the schedule), about what time should we plan to arrive (on the 6th) and leave(on the 9th) at the airport?

thankss (u can see im still not in working mode after yesterday)

Last year I think they opened check-in around 9am (10am?) on Thurs. (we arrived the night before, since we were flying in from CA), and then there was some closing event on Sun. morning but honestly I think mostly parents did that, since most students had been up much of the night Sat. ;) We left from Logan around 3pm I think? and had at least an hour to hang out before heading to the airport. Arriving Thurs. morning, leaving Sun. early afternoon would surely give you maximal time to enjoy CPW.

I might be volunteering @ CP-to-the-W :)

I actually got there Wednesday night last year- I drove from NJ so it made much more sense to leave after school on Wed and spend the extra night than to leave at some awful hour Thursday morning or something. I was planning on just staying with my parents in their hotel, but my host just let me stay an extra night.

I'll be volunteering all over the place at CPW- I'll be hosting people, working the registration desk, hanging out at all the Burton-Conner events, and of course there's the super awesome "Meet the Bloggers" party. =D

I hope to see a lot of you guys there!

OMG come earlyyyyy -- you guys are our greatest source of amusement for the entire weekend.

Coming earlyish on Thursday or Wednesday night would give you the ability to attend more classes -- if my prefrosh comes on Friday, she's not going to be able to go to class with me (because I don't have class on Fridays). :(

do any of you upperclassmen mind if some of us leave early? ... can we come Thurs and leave like on saturday night?

"prefrosh"? =O =P

thank you Laura and mollie. :]

Oh btw, is the host assignment quite random?

when do you find out who your host is?

And i guess this would help:

"We will offer complimentary shuttle service to the MIT campus from Boston's Logan Airport on Thursday April 6 and back to the Logan Airport on Sunday, April 9. On Thursday, the shuttle will be stationed in Terminal E and will leave the airport for campus approximately every half hour beginning at 8:00 am and continuing until 9:00 pm. The last bus will leave Logan at 9:00 pm. On Sunday, the shuttle will run from 6:00 am until 2:00 pm. The last bus leaving MIT for the airport will be at 2:00 pm."

So if your flying in, this may be convenient, although the T would still be fine if you know ur way.

HEHEHE we signed up for prefrosh. IT COULD BE YOU!!
