so after checking online, i found out that im eligible for about 13500 financial aid. and my provisional awards is only a loan of 40,064, which is my total cost if i go to UCLA (i guess this isnt really much of a "provisional award" since its a loan). my question is, is my "financial aid eligibility of 13500" a loan, or is it free, or is it a combination of both?

What does your FAFSA say? Are you OOS? Under Provisional Awards is there anything about a University Grant or Work Study?

yes, im OOS. i dont see anything about unversity grants or work study under "provisional awards". i only see "loans 40064".

and under "budget summary"....it says, "financial aid elgibility 13500". so is that amount a loan, since my only provisional award is loans?

I would call the financial aid office and ask. it's only 3:20PM in CA right now. My son is CA resident and I looked at his and it looks alot different. Good luck.

alrite, thanks. yeah, i told my mom and she immediately asked me for the FAO number. she is paying for it, so..lol. :)

tuke, that's exactly what mine looks like. i'm eligible for like 10k of financial aid but all that shows up in the provisional aid section is a massive loan.

When you're out of state, CA state schools primarily award just loans, but by all means call the FAid office if you have any questions. One of the main reasons we didn't apply to any CA state schools is because we knew they don't give much aid (other than loans) to OOS students.

I actually got about 14,000 in university grants this year and I'm classified as out of state. So it's possible.

My son was offered a university grant but it appears to me that they did it because our EFC is so low. I don't believe it is the norm. He was also offered loans/work study.

Himom's post seems helpful if you are OOS.

D is oos, with 4k Pell, 10k University grant, and 1.5k Univ scholarship (for Regents people who didn't make the final cut, it says). So around 16k in grant money from UCLA. I'm convinced that UCs only award up to in-state need for oos students and dump PLUS loans for the rest (oos portion) of the bill.

mag

That is basically the same package my son received (we are in state). They added $5k in loans and $2,500 in work study.
