About the recommendations...

I have narrowed down my last recommendation letter choices to two teachers:

  1. AP Gov teacher from last year - I was very outgoing and asked questions in her class. I didn't get the highest grade (got a 93) in there compared to my other ones, but the teacher knew me well as a person and thought I was a great student.
  2. AP Chem teacher from last year - I did better in this class than Gov and Calc. I'm strong in science and I would like to portray that through my recommendations.

I am in a bit of a dilemma here. My AP Gov teacher had the highest opinion of me as a person, but I fared better academically in AP Chem(I intend to pursue chem/physics in the future) than I did in AP Gov. However, since admissions offices would like to see the student’s personality through the recommendations, should I go with my AP Gov teacher? I did well in AP chem and the teacher nominated me for the state governor’s school, but I was really much closer to my AP gov teacher. Would admissions officers prefer to hear from a teacher that can speak more about one’s academic talent or one’s personal qualities?

I would go with gov because insight is more important.

the one who knows you better as a person

Agree…go with the teacher who knows you best.

@happy1 @Fishnlines29 @tigerman333 Thanks for your help! Also, this is unrelated, but my chemistry teacher nominated me for my state governor’s school, which is very selective. Can I list this as an honor/award in the application?

I’m not sure about that.

I don’t think so…
