hi

i had a question about the waitlist status

i thought that schools didn't start to use the waitlist until may first.

why has rice begun using the waitlist already?

if rice decides that the waitlist will no longer be used, will they send out an email letting us know? or do we just keep waiting until school starts?

thanks!!

A lot of schools begin to notify few students who are waitlisted before May 1st. These students were already on the top of the waitlist, so the universities would like to notify them as quickly as possible so they can choose the waitlisted college.

I’ve heard (not accurate) that Rice accepted too few students, and the yield is quite low, so they are going to accept handful of waitlisted students. I would like someone to confirm my statement.

Waitlisted students will NOT be contacted if they are not accepted. Just wait until June 20, and if you don’t hear back from Rice, you are rejected.

Yea, I do think that Rice accepted too few students this year. Last year, they accepted too many students… our freshman class overenrolled, and Rice had a big housing issue they had to deal with. No one got in off the waitlist last year. So it makes sense that Rice was more conservative this year with admissions.

I knew Rice had a rather low acceptance rate, but I was still keeping my hopes up when I found out that I got accepted to Northwestern…I’m interested to see how many people get off the waitlist for Rice this year. I’m on it, but as of now, I’m going to Emory which is a close second choice after Rice for me.

I heard that in previous years Rice would send out emails (a second time) to ask students on the waitlist if they were still interested and to get them to reconfirm if they were. I don’t know if admissions would do that this year, though, b/c we didn’t get any notice of that happening when we got the waitlist info last month.

I am also on the Rice University waiting list, and I have sent updated information to them. I am committed to going if I am accepted, so I am very interested in this particular thread. What I am wondering is how many kids accepted admissions to Rice and how many kids are currently on the waiting list. Would any one happen to know those two particular numbers?
