Well, I'm new to the IB program, n i'm a sophomore right now.
I know I shouldn't worry about what's to come 1 year later, but I'm still worried about the Diploma Program.
so here's my question:
1) What exactly is TOK?
2) what topics to you right about?
3) any tips/suggestions on HOw to get an A..?
4) Please explain to me Extended Essay too :(
- What it is, what u write about ,etc
Appreciate your help

1) It’s a discussion-oriented class (usually only 1/2 a credit). It’s not your typical HS class; most days you participate in seminar-like discussions.
2) Often global topics such as human rights, some political discussions, other stuff like that. Also various local and community topics, for instance we talked about the ethics and pros/cons of a new parking lot at our school. Basically anything.
3) Just participate in discussions. Honestly it’s the easiest IB class to make an A in.
4) A 4000 word limit essay on any topic of your choice. Sounds like a lot, but you have from late fall junior year to December senior year to work on it, and if you choose a good topic you’ll probably find yourself trying to cut down. You have to have a mentor who is a faculty member at the school.

Of course, different schools do it different ways but that’s how it works at mine. Any other questions feel free to PM me :)

TOK is basically a class where you have to question everything Topics are pretty broad. Don’t worry, when you take the class you’ll get lots of explanations on what it is you’re supposed to do.
You have to write a TOK paper which I don’t know much about (junior, just started) but apparently it’s not that tough.
The extended essay is an essay done on a topic you choose but it’s usually from one of your classes. Out of your six IB classes you basically choose one that will be what your EE is based on. Typically you pick from your HL classes, but you can pick SL if you want (this largely depends on the school).
If you’re really stressed out, there’s a forum for IB students and pre-IB students basically discussing all this. ibsurvival.com i’ve found it pretty helpful.
And don’t stress out too much. Just pick classes you love and are interested in because if you pick something you don’t really like that much it’ll be much much harder. good luck :D

thank you so much!
The ebsite gives a LOT of help to me.
I’ve been stressed out quite badly.
So THANK YOu!!

1) TOK = the class that you do to find self exploration. it is sorta to understand how we learn and the aspects in our world in how we learn. it

2) write about? anything really. as long as it relates to the core subjects of IB and the ways of knowing (WOK) which you’ll learn. world issues, biology, chemistry, calculus, english, philosophy, psychology, what not.

3) idk how it works at your school. but at my school, it is quite easy. it is a participation grade. just give out your ideas (but don’t be obnoxious about it like some other kids) and you’ll do fine. if your school does “journals” (our school does), make sure you do them every week!

4) 4000 words is the upperlimit, i believe the lower limit to minimally get an A is like 2500? i’m not 100% on the last part of that. you just basically write about any topic that you choose. most ppl say it requires about 40 hours of work that needs to be put into the essay in order to come out with a good essay. you do research, break it down, analyze it, and learn. that’s about it. it has to come out of the IB course system though. so don’t do a “psychology” paper if you haven’t taken IB psychology, right? so yep.

Good Luck! IB is blahh… ;)

ah! i see!
Thank you for your help
I was quite freaked out so thanks a lot
