About to move in with my grandma... what does this change?

I'm a rising senior. I've been living with my mother and sister this past year, however I will have to be moving in with my grandmother and uncle, who live in CA.

All 5 of us used to live in california, however last year my mother and sister moved to another state. Now, my mother and sister will remain there while I return to CA.

What does this change in the college applications process? Who will fill in my financial aid forms and such? Will it be based off of my mother's income? My grandma has a large house; will that mess with my EFC and chances for good financial aid?

Any info will help, this is very confusing. Thanks

You should ask this at the financial aid forum. There is a direct link on the left-hand side of this screen.

Generally speaking, the parent with legal custody (and is responsible for the majority of your financial support) is the one whose finances will appear on the FAFSA. Chances are that your grandmother’s finances won’t enter into things. But since your custodial parent lives out of state, if you are planning on studying at a public community college or university in California you also need to double-check the rules about in-state residence.

So this situation doesn’t affect the FAFSA, EFC, CSS, or anything like that? Because that’s all I’m concerned about. This situation is complicated so I won’t pursue public schools in either state.

Thanks, I will.
