About transcript

A few days ago one of my friends told me something that made me worried. He said the university he applied to (in US) wanted his transcript in both original language and in English.
I, myself, am going to apply to 4-5 universities in US. My university provides an English transcript for now (and it's watermarked unofficial). I can get my official transcript in original language upon graduation. Till now, I've applied only to one university. I remember asking them about the same thing and they told me: "We can temporarily work with unofficial transcripts to continue processing your application but we will require your final transcript and degree document in the official form once you graduate, and if you are admitted here."
So I asked my university to send them that English transcript in a sealed and stamped envelope. Since my friend told me about this new problem, I began checking all the universities I have in mind, and I see a lot of universities asking for transcripts in "both" languages.(and there are some who don't) Why do they want that? They can only read the one in English anyway. I have emailed them asking whether it's OK if for evaluation purposes my university sends them the English one, but now it's holiday and I have to wait (till Jan 6 I suppose?) and since the deadlines of the rest are either Jan 15 or 30, encountering a new problem now is really worrisome. I really didn't expect this. (I might even be able to provide the transcript in original language upon admission)
Does anyone have any idea? Do all international students send their transcripts in both languages when applying?

Another one just replied and said that transcript is OK for now. I hope others would reply the same thing.
