About where do i stand?

<p>I would like someone who knows a bit more than I on the subject tell me where i stand in getting a NROTC Scholarship. The number 1 school i want to go to is University of South Florida. It's my understanding that i have to apply to 5 colleges/universities and the navy may grant me a scholarship to one of them. Could someone please confirm this for me. My question is where do i stand getting a NROTC scholarship for USF. I mean am i ahead of the pack, middle of the pack, or behind.
My classes in order have went like this
Freshmen Year:
-English 1 Honors
-Earth/Space science Honors
-Algebra 1 Honors
-Leadership Education 1 (MCJROTC)
-AP Human Geography
-Physical Ed/Team sports
-Health Science 1</p>

-Biology Honors
-Geometry Honors
-AP World History
-Leadership Education 2 (MCJROTC)
-Team sports
-French 1</p>

<p>Junior Year(Current):
-Physics Honors
-AP English Language and composition
-AP U.S. History
-AP Environmental Science
-AP Biology
-No Credit Study Hall
-Leadership Education 3 (MCJROTC)</p>

<p>Senior(plaining on taking):
-AP Calculus AB
-AP Chemistry
-AP Government and Politics
-AP English Literature and composition
-Leadership Education 4 (MCJROTC)
-No credit study hall
-No credit study hall</p>

<p>Courses i have either taken or am currently taking on Florida Virtual School (I do attend physical school) include
-Physical science Honors
-Chemistry Honors
-Algebra 2 Honors
-French 2
-Pre-Calculus Honors
-(plan to take philosophy)</p>

<p>Sports:
-Swim team
-Wrestling
-Tennis team</p>

<p>Clubs/Extra curricular
-Im a JROTC officer. My billets include being the adjutant and a platoon commander. I also do the the JROTC raiders team.
-Student counsel
-Interact club
-National Honor society
-assistant coach for little league soccer team
-Held jobs during each summer of high school</p>

<p>Other Stats:
-Unweighted GPA- 3.55
-Haven't taken SAT or ACT yet but plan to do above average
-Attend a public school in Central Florida
-Counselor won't let me get class rank until senior year</p>

<p>I'm also a white male.</p>

<p>P.S. I want NROTC for the navy not the marine option.</p>

<p>I would say that you are doing quite well, so far.</p>

<p>Without ACT or SAT scores, it is really hard to predict much at this time. However, you are taking lots of AP courses, which is a great thing, and your grades are good (but not outstanding).</p>

<p>Take the ACT and SAT as soon as possible. Plan on taking both of them twice each. Yes, I know this takes time and money, but it is a wise investment.</p>

<p>Also, if your sports activities in swimming, wrestling, and tennis are varsity (not JV) then that is a huge help. If not, try to make at least one varsity team.</p>

This is true. You list the colleges in order of your personal preference and the Navy will choose which college you attend. The best way to maximize your chance of going to USF is to make it your first choice and to apply as early as possible (early summer 2015) for the NROTC scholarship. This alone is a great reason to take the ACT and SAT as soon as possible. Generally, the Navy works on a “first come, first serve” basis for choosing the college. It probably will help that USF is a state school, and will not cost the Navy as much as a private college or an out of state school.</p>

<p>By the way, do not put down both USF and University of Tampa. For NROTC purposes, they are the same unit. You must choose 5 unrelated colleges. </p>

<p>In addition to USF, I recommend looking at the following:

  • Auburn University
  • University of South Carolina
  • North Carolina State University
  • Rhodes College in Memphis (crosstown school to University of Memphis), if you like small schools.</p>

<p>If you happen to get higher than 32 on the ACT, or 1400 on the SAT, then maybe consider Vanderbilt and/or Georgia Tech. Tulane is a good choice too.</p>

<p>USF has outstanding ROTC programs, with great facilities. Excellent choice.</p>
