Absolute bottom of the barrel

So, I am a non-traditional student with 15 credits that are transferable to Penn State university. I did horridly in high school, and even worse at the local community college. It wasn't because I didnt have the aptitude to learn or retain knowledge, it was because I worked and pretty much gave up on myself to earn a degree. But as a last hurrah, I joined the military to straighten up and put some perspective on my life. It has helped tremendously, and now I am motivated by what I have seen a person is capable of doing to better themselves.

I am wondering what kind chance(if any) I have to make it to University Park. I have been out of High school for more than 5 years, and out of college for 4. I can qualify as a provisional student, but lets face it-its space available only. I would love to attend the main campus, but I understand that I may very well just need to attend a branch campus in order to prove my acadmic worth.

I apologize for spilling my life story. I have just been contemplating my options when I leave the service. Thank you!

I think after a tour of duty in the military you would, from an academic standpoint by applying with a clean slate and your previous performances in high school and community colleges will not hurt you that much. All college admissions forms ask for the type of discharge you received when you separated from the military if you have ever been in the service. Be sure you get an honorable discharge, anything less could cause problems and a dishonorable discharge is an academic and economic life sentence.
