Academic admission

IS JMU very selective academically in admission? I seem to remember somewhere reading that is was difficult to be admitted without very high SAT &/or GPA…

@theaterwork You & I are looking at all the same schools with similar questions. I am also on the east coast!
Here is what I found for JMU 25th % & 75th % :
SAT Critical Reading: 520 / 620
SAT Math: 530 / 630
I am loving what I am learning about this school so far & cannot wait to visit this fall!

Thanks @joyfulmama!

JMU does definitely look at test scores for academic admissions, but seems to take a pretty holistic approach, looking also at rigor of HS curriculum in relationship to that offered by an applicants particular school, Mostly As and Bs in core courses, etc… –

JMU is selective… according to the most recent common set data where the average GPA for freshman is listed, it is a 3.8 with a rigorous HS course load.

From the JMU admissions website:

http://www.jmu.edu/admissions/fastfacts.shtml

http://www.jmu.edu/admissions/apply/freshman.shtml

Arts programs can recommend students to academic admissions and this can help boost their chances of being admitted academically. However, a student who is for the most part not within the JMU academic admissions range will not be admitted, even with the arts program recommendation.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Hope to see you at visitation days in the fall!

@KatMT Thanks fort he links and accurate info! My D is a solid 3.8 with a very rigorous schedule so seems like a good fit academically as well as artistically! I am sure more questions will arise and I am so grateful you are active on this forum!
