I already told my advisor that I wouldn't be in the states until August 16th and then she told me to call her over the phone to register for classes...

Well later one when i wrote her back, she claimed she didn't know i was an international student (which I'm not, i'm on a vacation) and she was trying to make me attend an orientation.. in Hong Kong. (I'm in S. Korea)

believe it or not it's really hard to travel to another country for just an orientation... (like... traveling to Panama for orientation..) Yeah.

And then she told me not to be upset at anybody (which i am.. at the LADY!! She can't remember anything i tell her!) and it was my fault for not planning things out earlier..!!!!!!

Uh hello? I already emailed admissions office asking about not being able to attend orientation right after i was admitted but somebody just told me I should just try to register beforehand..

GAWR rather frusted... I don't really care about registering at this point I just don't want her as my advisor... GWJERKER

Well whatever. What can I do. I guess the only thing for me is to register after Summer.. (which I don't get.. why can't they just lift my ban???)

I don't know.. she's the fine art advisor for last names n-z or whatever. I wish i could (this brings me back memories of my high school counselor that i hated...grr)

I find that the admission counselors are pretty helpful in all areas, not just in admission. If that doesn't work...try contacting the advisor that's not N-Z? Or if you have records of the letters you've sent to the N-Z advisor (showing how she said one thing and now has forgotten), refresh her memory and fwd her those e-mails you two sent back and forth.

^ Yo already did that (i never erase the string of emails) and somehow she still forgets things. Grr. so frustrating. She just told me to call her at the end of July or something.. Why can't she just lift my ban? GKJS:DserSER

They're kinda picky about the international students because of the whole visa/immigration thing which they have to stick to so they're more "letter of the law" there.

Still it sounds ridiculous. Hong Kong is at least 2000 km from Korea.

I say, use her forgetfulness to your advantage. :) Call her back but don't say anything about being out of the country, just that you can't go to orientation and you'd like to register.

If she brings up the international thing again just say you're a US citizen (assuming you are) and patiently remind her again you're just on vacation. Eventually somethings gotta happen, it's their fault if they don't sort it out by the 16th.

If all else fails, contact the non a-m advisor. Just don't complain about the other advisor to them, lol.

I emailed my admissions counselor.. i hope they don't contact my acadmic counselor because then that lady will really hate me.. (which i don't really mind) but I gotta still go through her... sigh

Before you got too angry, or frustrated, you may need to "calmly" use the normal method of resolution. Once around and UP. If you can not find an answer with the academic counselor, and you have tried "calmly" twice, then go up a level. And, i repeat the "calmly" portion. USC wants you to be happy, and will do everything it can to answer questions for you. Provided that you have been calm and reasonable in your requests, then you have every right to go up a level. Ask for the Manager or Supervisor. If you come across angry, you will only make things worse. If you present your concern in a clear and calm manner, they will be eager to help you.

^ I did but after awhile I admit i did get frusted and she figured it out. (I emailed her around 10 times? Told her I'm not an international student and is just on a vacation around 3 times??) she kept on asking me the same question again (when all the previous email was underneath it)

IT's not like I was like "OMG I HATE YOU GO DIE" haha... I was just little bit frusted...

"frusted?" Is that some slang that I don't know because I'm out of touch with pop culture? :)

Well I'm not sure what to say except to be patient and keep trying to work it out. Absolute worst case scenario, you have to register when you get back in august, which isn't too bad really.

If there are any classes that are closed at that time you want to get into, just remember that people usually drop and so you might be able to go to the first few class sessions and snatch a space in the 1st week or two of classes.
