Academic and Competitive scholarships for non-NMSF

Today S16 received 2 award letters from UK, for Kentucky Heritage Scholarship for OOS and also the Thomas Lester Scholar for Engineering students. As best as I can tell, the UK Heritage Scholarship only partially offsets the OOS tuition cost, as it is for $10K/year X 4 years. OOS tuition is more than double this amount. While the Lester Scholarship helps, it still falls FARRRRRR short of what we hoped for. S16 has a 34 ACT, higher with super score, attends a nationally ranked magnet school, tons of academic rigor, weighted 4.3 gpa on 4.0 scale, very nice ECs, will have a class rank of 1/317. We like UK because they have a very talented pool of faculty for EE and CE, along with an outstanding study abroad program in Europe.

Anybody have any input or experience on the potential for additional scholarship awards from UK?

I can share my son’s experience. We received a letter in early December regarding the academic scholarship. $1500 provost in his case. He interviewed for the competitive scholarships in October and we are still waiting to receive further information on those opportunities. My understanding is that there is a separate letter for the academic versus competitive scholarships.
