I just noticed the first day of classes is a week later than it has been last two years - any idea why they changed it?

Not really sure why FSU is starting later this coming school year, but it’s ok with me. I do know FSU was not in sync last year with many of the other state universities in Florida; FSU seemed to be a week ahead of all the other schools–we’d be on break and the other universities were in class. Last year too FSU’s law school’s calendar seemed to be much different than the rest of FSU’s colleges.

The same day of the month is generally a day later each year, two days later on a leap year. So if FSU starts on a monday, that start day will be a calendar day earlier every year. So every 6-7 years you drop back a week, and then it creeps up a day a year for another 6-7 years. Look at a long term calendar and you will see. What they did this year was move back Fall term a week later, but shorten up winter break so graduation is about the same. But next year Spring will be a week later as well.

FSU probably has an internal thing where the time between Summer move out and Fall move in must be a certain number of days apart. Had they kept the same schedule, it would have been only about 10 days between move out and move in, which probably made them decide to just move things back a week.

Plus as you said their calendar didn’t really line up with other colleges. Granted, I looked it over and this year that is even worse than usual, so…
