Academic Common App Supplement?

Hey Guys,

I didnt really know where to post this... but basically i've been doing research at a local college and I was wondering whether it would be a good idea to submit an abstract of my research. Well.. I guess it isn't "my" research, its kind of like an unpaid internship and I've been helping the undergrad students with their research but I'm getting to do more and more.

So would it be a good idea to submit an abstract of it?

thanks

Research abstracts are good but you need to talk to your PI and whatever undergrads you work with about writing an abstract and submitting it.

Abstracts imply that this is your own research and based off your description, it sounds like you are assisting with research right now and not really doing your own project.

My $0.02

okay, thanks! would it be better to just ask my PI for a letter of rec instead?

Agreed.

How well does s/he know you? If the LoR would be personal and reveal a side of you the rest of your application wouldn’t, go for it. Otherwise, let the internship speak for itself on your list of activities.

^ I think she knows me pretty well/I’m starting to get to know her better. Thing is that I spend more time working with the other students in her lab but we still know each other fairly well.
