Academic crisis! PLEASE HELP ME !

Hello all,

Forgive me not introducing myself, but at this moment I am in the need of all the help I can receive. If I can take a moment to explain my situation, I am a heop student at a university, this is my sophomore year, but however I have been sick all of freshman year and along with this semester, along with my medical sickness and other extenuating circumstances at home I have suffered greatly at school. My GPA was compromised last year (2.5) because of family related issues and this semester it has because I have been ill. A I’ve been dealt a ****ty hand huh? I am failing four of my classes, science classes that of the pre-med course, because they all interrelated I am getting four F’s. the only bright side to the F’s is that I can retake the courses and the new grade will be factored into my gpa. but I cannot afford the new gpa with the given 2.5 and the this semesters gpa of 1.0 I am in danger of jeopardizing any chances of admission to medical school, regardless if I have an excuse or not.

Now,

My best bet is to either transfer schools or apply to a new school as a freshman. However, I cannot afford to transfer to any school and can only do it in the means of heop funding.

I came from a public highschool in a less affluent neighborhood. I didn’t not receive the proper education I sought for. I have a gpa of 85 and a sat score of 1400/2400. because I am economically challenged and lack the proper grades I had to enroll school through heop. I have to leave my current college for a new one.

My question is, will my stats be good for

A school like cornell, Columbia or nyu?

I am a very intelligent person, through my life ive been told that I have the qualities of a genius but lack motivation. I have a story to tell and a lot to offer. but my problem is I don’t know what to do.

Any advice ? anything would be appericated.

I want to know if it I can apply to such schools with my stats, but if I apply

Should I apply as a new freshman?

Or as a transfer student?

PLEASE HELP =(

you mean 1400 out of 2400?

sorry, yes 1400/2400

ummm you have a reallly low chance at cornell, columbia & nyu
i think they get a lot of disadvantaged applicants per year with higher stats than yours so you have to stand some other way. why not go to a community college & then transfer?

no i cannot do that, it would defeat the purpose of everything

this is my fourth semester at my current college, but i will be withdrawing and applying to another college.

can i apply as a freshman without them knowing i already attended another college or institute?

when did you graduate high school? i don’t think you can apply as a freshman (even if you do get accepted they might revoke your acceptance for lying to them). i think you have to transfer or something.

maybe you can write them a long letter talking about your illness…

i graduated 2007

if i write them a letter about my illness/story, what more can i ask of them?

if i cannot apply in as a freshman, than is it possible to transfer into a heop program?

this thread might be of use to you
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/500999-eop-heop-other-opportunity-programs.html

however, even with your story, you still have minimal chances

You’ll be asked if you took previous collegiate level courses – so you’re faced with lying. Also, your enrollment is easily identifiable on extant databases. You won’t be able to hide your current attendance. Perhaps go to your academic deans and seek their advice as to how to proceed. Best of luck to you.

No, student cannot apply or be accepted into EOP/HEOP. This has to be doine during freshman admissions. If he was originally admitted to EOP/HEOP as a freshman (fall 2007) he can transfer and not lose his status.

No you cannot get a “do over”, applying as a freshman and acting as if the past year and a half does nto exist. You can transfer, but it will have to be as a transfer student. You will be easily found out just as soon as you apply for FA and they will see that you are doing a FAFSA renewal (in addition, they will be able to tell if you have had previous loans, fed aid, etc).

Your application would automatically be rejected for misrepresentation or if accepted, your admission would be rescinded. If attending school, your registration would be dropped and you would be asked to leave.

I agree withT26E4, your best bet is to arrange meetings with your professors, academic deans, counselors, study center, etc. so that you can salvage your situation.
