Academic Decathlon worth the time?

I signed up for my school's academic decathlon class next year. We got these huge study packets in the summer and we have to remember EVERYTHING. I thought it was going to be pretty cool, but I'm feeling very ambivalent about it now. I just don't think the time invested in academic decathlon seems productive. There's also a chance I might not make the team. Our school's team isn't that good (barely top 10 in state).

For those fellow decathletes, can you elaborate your acdec experience? (i know this is kinda broad). Do you feel like the time involved in this will help with colleges?

Thanks to any replies!

Yes! It would look good for college Application but are you going to be in it for a long time. Because colleges are not astonished with students that are in it or a year or so and then quit. That actually costs you the chance. I would recommend you to do something your committed to.
For example, I’m doing link crew (3 years), volunteer (2-3 years), CSF ( 3-4 years), and ASB (2 years)
