academic dishonesty/transferring??

yoski
im a junior at this elite private high school, and ive recently been in a predicament. through a great misunderstanding i got caught for cheating by sharing notes with another student. We had no intention of cheating and thought what we were doing was fine...but obviously it wasnt. personally, as my parents agree, i think the school overreacted for i am now on academic probation. this means if any LITTLE thing happens at all under my name i will be expelled. (even recently there was a report of cheating in my ap bio class..and i was the first to be inquired even tho i didnt do anything)

Since the first incident was so minor, i am terrified that something might happen again within the next year. (my school expelled this kid 2 weeks before their graduation for practically nothing) Its put me under a great deal of stress, making it impossible to relax in school. My parents have witnessed this new stress in my life and have been talking to me about transferring to a nearby public highschool. At this point I am honestly considering. i LOVE LOVE LOVE my friends/teachers at my school and ill be absolutely heartbroken to leave..but if it stops me from being expelled ill obviously do it. My whole goal these past 3 yrs is to get into U of I engineering program...i will do anything to make that dream possible even if it means transferring my senior year. aghhh but idk

Should i push through my senior year at the risk of easily being expelled for something stupid or little? Or should i transfer and start fresh? Also will u of i care that i transferred my senior yr (if i do)?

fun facts:
gpa: 3.98 (4 scale)
act:31 (only took it once tho..taking it again in june..goin for 33+)
next yr classes i had planned on:
BC Calc (will they even let me do it in another school?..i mean in my current school it was probz harder to get into..but still..)
AP Physics
AP stats
religion
journalism/creative writing
political theory/chicago history
*also im leader of some clubs and involved in xc/track

Transfer. Academic probation for sharing notes? Your school is psycho. If sharing notes was cause for probation at my school, I’d have been expelled in kindergarten. But only transfer if you’re admitted into a similarly elite and rigorous private school. Don’t transfer to some dumpy public (like my school :D).

just stay…transferring will make everything worse

^ How so? Would you stay at a school if you were on edge, looking over your shoulder all the time, and thinking that the administration is out to get you?

it would look bad when you apply to colleges. almost nobody transfers that late after jr. year. even when you transfer early such as after freshman/before sophomore year, that tells the colleges something (unless your school is ghetto ie Compton HS … but the OP goes to a good private school)

OP is scared they’re going to be EXPELLED. I’d rather have a transfer than an expulsion on my transcript.

wut if i say its for financial reasons…? the private one is $15,000 and public is of course free…the economy is prty crappy…cud be believable?

Or you could say you heavily disagreed with your school’s policies. No need to (white) lie.

OP is just being paranoid. As long as he/she keeps it lowkey, everything should be fine.

this is true truffliepuff (lolz) i mean im not a bad/dishonest student…it def wudnt be hard to keep it lowkey…
this is another thing tho to throw into the mix: my mother and i had a sitdown meeting with the principle of the public school and he said once i transfer all my courses adn stuff over…i never even have to mention on my app that i went to the other school…soo colleges dont even have to know bout the transfer…idk i found that interesting.

thankyou so much for the responses…they r well appreciated!!

I’d save my $15000 plus my sanity and just transfer.

Your principal seems shady. :)

Oh come on it’s just senior year. The OP is about to graduate and get it over with. Why would you transfer when it’s about to be the last last year and throw away all your friends and those memories away to having to adjust to a completely new and different school with people and teachers you will probably not be as close to as those at the old school? It seems pretty balls-less to me if the OP transfers. Just hang in there >_>

I think I’m pro-transfer because I’ve pretty much wanted to transfer out of my own school forever - and nearly did this year, but chickened out since my new school was a private, Catholic, all-girls school in a different country. A complete change of scenery from my ghettosuburbia public. OP, talk to a counselor at one of your perspective colleges and see how they would feel about you transferring. It’s their opinion that matters most.

I’d transfer. I know some kids that go to private schools and oftentimes discipline becomes a witch-hunt. Privates have reputations to keep and sometimes have ridiculous rules. As long as you can maintain the same curriculum and it doesn’t hurt your ECs that much I would transfer. Also, ECs don’t matter that much for schools like U of I cause U of I is public. The smartest kid I know went to a mediocre public and it didn’t stop him from getting into HYPS. He is also much more balanced as he is not burnt out in college. IMO private schools are overrated. They put WAY too much focus on academics and rules, and don’t produce well-rounded students. I’m not saying every school is like that, as the school next to my public is not, but most are IMO. Just my 2 cents.

since you’re already so close to being expelled for doing the littlest thing, you might as well take advantage of this and do the BIGGEST possible thing. you’re going to get expelled anyway, and who wants to go to a dirty public school? just accept the fact that your life is over and run with it.

ideas:
-set the library on fire
-hold up the cafeteria and demand all the money from the registers
-light up a fat joint in the middle of class and keep smoking it no matter what happens
-punch a nun (assuming your private school is catholic?)

im sure you can come up with more!

good call jax
i def cud do them all at once
the plan: smoke a joint, get yelled at by my teacher (a nun), punch her, continue to smoke my joint, set the lib on fire with the joint, then proceed to hold up the cafeteria
i cud finish it off by sharing some class notes w. someone…
solid.

That’s stupid. You should just transfer; don’t create police trouble for yourself because that looks just as bad as an expulsion and might keep you from applying to college or getting a job.

I suggest that you transfer.

Transfer. Many kids leave private schools at almost any point…sometimes due to finances. Just go to the public school and finish there.

I do have to ask…why are you so concerned that “something might happen”?
