i know a girl in my school who applied to the Hotel School but completely lied about her whole application. She has no experience and no real interset in it, but lied about her experience and reason to go. Now she has been accepeted as a preferred transfer student. What should I do? Should I tell someone?

Even though whatever she did was highly unethical, it is quite honestly none of your business. Her application is none of your business, confidential, for the eyes of the adcoms only, etc. etc..

If she has no experience, she'll get stressed over unfamiliar coursework.

If she has no interest, she'll transfer out or do something else rather than endure a few very boring years followed by a very boring career.

The answer to your question: You don't need to do a thing.

well shell have to live with her lies, but dont even consider snitching- rules of the street

yea dont be a snitcha

you should spit on her hamburger in the cafeteria and watch her eat it

That was a very dishonest thing for her to do.

But I wouldn't do anything.

did you see her application before she sent it? how do you know she was lying?

Maybe so but it's unfair to someone else who really wanted to go and really had an interest and would have loved a preferred transfer but was rejected.

karma

it'll come back to her
just let it be, and live your life like you should

pvodenski^ right on. you'll encounter tons of people like this, expecially at top schools who will do anything to get ahead, or what they think will get them ahead. they'll either stumble on their own efforts or be totally crushed by things she didn't expect. just keep your head high above selfish idiots and keep passionate with what you want to do.

those kinds of people will get what they deserve

(gothic music background)

=P

Sit on her face. Duh.

It IS extremely unfair, but it will be a greater embarrassment for this individual when she finds herself lost and behind her peers, or bored out of her mind. There's no question, she will not get far.

Karma's a *****. It'll come back and bit her in the butt. No worries! :]

Worry about what u have to do; don't worry about her. She will get hers in the end b/c God said so. Keep doing what u do and do it well :)

Why not an anonymous complaint to the admissions office or student provost?

no sense in that
those organizations can't listen to anonymous complaints; they have to give students the benefit of the doubt (and probably want to, since those students are paying, after all)

trust me (and other posters), you're best off just avoiding this person and not letting their dishonesty turn into negative energy for you

whether you think it's god, karma, or the tooth fairy, people who do bad things have bad things happen to them, and people who live their lives the way they believe is right have good things happen to them. simple :)

Well, that's not entirely true. It's easy for the school to check the credentials of students, and they will often listen to anonymous complaints - my computer science professor threw out a number of dishonest assignments last quarter, because of anonymous complaints.

wow
i had no idea; i'm picturing this big brother scenario right now.. hm. well i guess if students don't take advantage and generally prove to be correct in their accusations, the school's right in taking action..

the lesson? don't be dishonest :)

if you were to give a complaint I'd say you're just as bad as that person.. just in a different way. Theres nothing worse than a snitch, and its true, its not anybody's business.

How does that make any sense, though? It seems to me that it's the responsibility who witnesses dishonesty, to report said dishonesty. Is there any point in tolerating injustice? Furthermore, what harm are you causing yourself, by reporting dishonesty?

Also, those schools that do have an honor code generally state that those students under the honor code must, as part of the code, report academic dishonesty.
