Academic Dismissal

I was recently academically dismissed from UC Riverside for dropping below the 2.0 G.P.A requirement. What are my options now?

I know I can work toward readmission at UCR. But is it really worth it? My transcript is permanently scarred so is pursuing graduate school after readmission an option anymore? Also, employers can also request my transcript. So, is readmission a viable option anymore?

There's always junior colleges but in my opinion a UC is always better than a junior college.

So, what are my options? Should I pursue readmission?

Also, some information about me:

Dismissed after fall quarter of sophomore year with G.P.A of 1.8

Previous achievements:
AP Calculus BC score - 5
AP Biology score - 4
AP Language and Compositon score - 4
AP Government score - 5
ACT score - 30
SAT Math subject test score - 700
SAT History subject test score -
680

My point is that I am capable of succeeding in college but crayon addictions of mine led to my dismissal. I am currently seeing a professional counselor to work these issues and want to get back into college.

Thank you.

“My point is that I am capable of succeeding in college”

Apparently not.

*but certain addictions…

I thought you had a crayon addiction, my mistake. But seriously, CC then transfer. And don’t f uck up again.

Take a break from college, get your addictions in order, and then reenroll later.

This. 10char

What is a crayon addiction?

My guess is, an epic iPhone autocorrect fail.

Definitely go back to college. Less than 15% of American high schoolers take an AP class…and look how many you did? You scored in the top 95% in the country for the ACT, your AP scores and SAT II scores are so amazingly good to top it off too, and you obviously care enough to come to CC…
you should definitely go back,
but not stay away for long if you do, like not long at all, because then you won’t be able to go back
and many community college students don’t graduate, like the national percentage is like 25% or something? Many of this kids that you’ll meet might just get you to fall back down again.

Take one of the many paths taken by people who do not get a 4-year degree right after high school.

Re-enroll back in a 4-year university.

Attempt to apply to a foreign university.

None of those options is easy unless you’re filthy rich. To me Option #2 seems like the best. A 1.8 GPA certainly won’t open doors for you, but it’s possible to recover from it. You can probably transfer classes you took elsewhere and you can take an extra year at UCR to bring your GPA up to respectable levels. Anything over a 3.0 should get you past most grad school cutoffs so that they actually consider your application at which point your GPA is less important. This does means you will have to make a lot of As, though. Of course if you meant professional school by grad school then you’ve got a raw deal. As for employers, you will at least have the right to refuse to disclose your transcript.

Option #3 is something I know very little about. I just know someone at my university did that after he got pretty much expelled for cheating.

You should really do your research on this. Find out your university’s policies, what you have to do to get back and all that. You should definitely work out your addictions first. From what I understand of academic dismissals, you’re supposed to get at least one semester to get back on track. Option #1 isn’t an easy way to go when you just did the academic equivalent of not paying your rent after being explicitly threatened with eviction.

Hello, I am kind of in a similar problem. I have just this summer after taking summer school been put on STD but during spring I was dropped from my biology major and from the CNAS major without getting a reason as to why I was dropped. Now I have a hold on my growl account and I havent been able to register for fall classes, but I have not received any email or letter telling me that I have been kicked out or whatever and my advisor is no help at all. Help please!! I dont know what to do!!

I LOL’d at the crayon addiction.

Going to a CC and then transferring out of it is not a bad deal. Some colleges will look at your improvements at the CC more favorably.

Sigh. Having good AP scores, ACT scores, SAT scores does not mean you will succeed in college. There is a lot more to college then tests and academics, and one of the hardest things is managing time and the vices, alcahol, pot, parties, etc can be okay for your academics in small doses, but can really hurt you if you go overboard.

Thing is that it sounds like something went wrong with you in college. I would suggest get a job for a couple years and reasses whether college is for you then.

Davinitall please take this in good spirit, this is a college/educational website after all. But before you give advice I think you should check your spelling and grammar. Now, i’ve been drinking just recently, I just finished my 8th Beck’s beer. So never mind if i’m just seeing things. I see you said “then” instead of than. “There is a lot more to college then tests and academics”. Then, you said “alcahol”, instead of alcohol. Finally, you misspelled reassess. You said what sounds like, Re-Asses. Like, it just made me picture a bunch of asses.

Other than that, your advice was on point.

What is crayon addiction BTW.
