Academic history on the USC supplement

I have run into a bit of a problem in filling out and completing the USC supplement, if anyone could help me out.

On the supplement page on the Common Application, I noticed that there is no way to indicate if you've taken more than one class in a particular subject area in a given semester / year. In my case, I took both Honors Physics and AP Biology during my junior year, but I cannot fit both into the text field on the page.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue? Should I not be able to put both, I'm confident that putting the former of the two classes would help me more in the long run in order to demonstrate that I took at least one class each of biology, chemistry, and physics (I took Honors Biology in my sophomore year).

In addition, should I bother labeling any advanced classes I took that were not on an AP / IB level as honors or Pre-AP - my school uses the latter designation - in order to demonstrate that I still took advanced courses during those semesters?

I thank everyone who can help me out in advance.

Put the additional science course under “electives.”

Enter course titles as they appear on your transcript.

Thank you very much for your quick response.

If you don’t mind my asking, could you tell me where you got your information from? The only reason I ask is because I was referring to the Common Application Supplement instructions found here[/url">http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1112/CommonApplication_SupplementalInstructionsV2.pdf"]here while I was completing the supplement on the CommonApp, and it makes no mention of the instructions you provided me.

I am getting my information from familiarity with the college application process and an understanding of the term “elective.” Courses that are not required for graduation but that you “elect” to take are electives. A second science course in a single year meets that description. Take it or leave it. Good luck.

Alright. Thanks once again, and hopefully I will be accepted into USC. :)

Ronald,

Alamemom has been assisting students and parents on this board for years. She is quite familiar with the application process, especially the complexities of financial aid. My suggestion is to follow her sound advice. The university admissions committee will receive an official copy of your transcript sent by your high school. That is a good reason to have the course titles match.

Right now you are stressed to have the applications in to your selected colleges/universities by the deadlines. Take a deep breath. Things will be all right.

Hints…If you have time finish the applications. Wait a day. Read them over one more time. You may have missed an error if you completed them in a hurry.

Read you essay out loud. I just attended an SC admissions information/reception. ALL applications are read. ALL essays are read.

i had exactly this question. thank you so much! i took ap bio along with honors chemistry in my sophomore year, and ap physics and ap chemistry my junior year and was confused about how to indicate it. thanks :D

I recently sent an email to my admissions counselor at USC expressing my concern, to which she replied that any additional courses should be counted as academic electives and consequently be documented in that section. Additionally, she told me that classes can be designated as Pre-AP / Honors when appropriate.

Hope this helps anyone who is in a similar situation.

I am so glad you were able to get confirmation of my answer and hope that you can now feel at ease with putting your electives under “electives” and entering the course names as they appear on your transcript.

Thank you for the update.
