What exactly goes here? Community Awards? Does NHS work? What about being a teen mentor? I am doing a special project about alcohol use at my school. I was selected out my whole class to do it by my Principal. Does that count?

Academic excellence awards, awards for math/science/foreign lang/debate/engineering/etc. competitions; summer research programs, TASP, debate camp, math camp, etc.

None of the things you mentioned sound like academic honors and programs. They are ECs. And there is a special place on the application for non-academic awards, if I remember correctly. That's where the community awards should go.

"math/science/foreign lang/debate/engineering/etc. competitions"

Wait, wouldn't this go in the EC part?

I kind of listed them in both categories. "Science Olympiad" went in ECs, while "1st place - Rocks and Minerals, Science Olympiad" went in Academic Honors. While I'm not sure if this is totally the best way to do it, I am at Stanford today.

Haha! Go celestial! I had the same: Sci Oly in ECs, but awards in awards. But that's cuz I don't have that many awards at all.

And please don't tell me I did it wrong, cuz I already submitted =)

Math team, Debate team, etc. are ECs.

First place State Math competition is an academic award.

I did a summer internship in which I wrote a box office manual and trained the new office manager... could I put that in the academic awards and programs section? or would that go somewhere else?
Also, I won 4th place regional for Language Lit. competition in Academic Decathlon.. but I listed that under my Academic Decathlon EC, should I also put it in the awards section?
For the awards section now, I have National French Contest placements, AP Scholar with Honor, College Book Awards, and National Merit Semifinalist, that kind of thing... is that right?

Yes, that sounds right.

Yes, I think you should.

That does not sound like an academic program in any way. It should probably go into "work experience" section, or "what did you do last summer" section.

thank you!

So do we list an award we get for an EC twice? Once in the EC section next to the activity and again on the award page?
