Academic Honors Section

Hey guys,

I have a few personal questions about the Honors section of the Common App.

First of all, do awards gained from Future Problem Solving count as academic distinctions? In other words, would Future Problem Solving count as an academic EC? I have gained awards at both its state and international competitions. If they do count, should I list both the state and international awards as two distinct academic honors?

Secondly, is the level of recognition of National Honor Society school-wide or nation-wide?

Lastly, should I list National AP Scholar as one of the awards? I know I'm going to get it, but I haven't gotten it technically. Also, would it make sense to list that instead of the AP Scholar with Distinction award since it is more prestigious?

Thanks!

Do not list AP awards to are redundant, it’s a waste of space. If you will have National AP Scholar as a result of tests you have already taken you can list it because by the time you submit your app it should be official.

Listing National Honor Society as an award is generally not advised. It’s better to list it as an extracurricular.

I don’t know anything about Future Problem Solving but I would definitely mention it over National Honor Society if it’s anything legit.

I realize this is reviving a dead thread. But if I got my IB Diploma a year early, would that count as an academic award? And if so, it would be considered an International Award yes?

^bump bump

It’s probably worth mentioning, and I guess it would be international
