Academic Probation, Extremely Stressed

Hey everyone, I'm in need of some advice.

This is my second semester of college at FSU. I did extremely bad my first semester (spring) due to personal circumstances and ended up at a 1.3 GPA with the grades B C C D and an F in math. I didn't want to begin my fall semester on academic probation so I took a few classes over summer including retaking math and got an A and raised my GPA up to a 2.0. For my fall semester I did really poorly again getting B C D C D F and so my GPA will drop under a 2.0 again, it should be just above a 1.5 so I'll be on academic warning... I think.

I'm so upset, stressed, and lost. I feel like there's a chance I might get kicked out for being under a 2.0 again. I'm also worried that I'm not good enough for my major in Computational Biology. I love learning and I can understand the concepts taught but once there's a test in front of me my mind blanks and I fail every single time. Even my peers know I understand what's going on in class because I'm usually the one helping them in our study groups. What should I do? Is there something I could be doing wrong?

I plan on going to advising within the week but I just wanted to hear from others that may have experienced something similar and can help me.

It seems like your problem is testing anxiety. Was this an issue in high school as well? Definitely ask your advisor what alternative testing options there are, if you feel like that might be your issue. A LOT of people panic and blank on tests, so the advisor should be pretty understanding and try to find you options! Best of luck!

Yes, in high school I also didn’t do so well on tests but tests were never weighed as heavily so I was able to maintain high grades. I talked to some others and they also think my issues might have to deal with anxiety so I’m going to talk to my advisor tomorrow about everything. I’ve never wanted to talk this before because I feel like it’s something I should be able to get over with time and effort but I’m starting to realize it might not be that simple. I’m just hoping it’s not too late. Thank you!

ok, first of all. You need to stop taking 5 classes. Take like 4 classes. Go to a community college. Go there and stop going to fsu. Go back to fsu when your gpa has been risen to a 3.0 from community college. Or take 3 classes…for now…
