Academic Probation on UC Berkeley Application

Hi All, I tried doing a search. I believe I was put on academic probation almost 10 years ago at a JC. I got two W's in the same semester and a hold was put on my record, I met with the counselor, they removed the hold and I moved forward. I have gotten nothing but A's and B's ever since!

Is it going to hurt my chances when I check the box at the end of the application asking if I've been on academic probation?

Thanks everyone.

Good question… I had the same problem.

I was put on academic probation as well years before applying to UCSD and forgot about it until after filing my application. Luckily it wasn’t even on my transcript, so it might be worth it to pay the $5 to see if you have it on there.

Fraudulent applicant ^^

Thanks everyone. I actually met with an admissions officer at Berkeley who read my personal statement today, and I asked him about this. He said that I should list in the “Academic History” section on our application that I had probation 10 years ago and it was quickly removed from my record. He said he wouldn’t have cared if he saw that explanation and I had nothing but good grades thereafter. Hope this helps! Thanks again.

it’s really weird that they ask us this question. They could see by our grades if we have semesters after semesters full of Ws and D/Fs. Hopefully this question is more for OOS/4 year applicants and they won’t care too much.

@Cyse00: It wouldn’t have mattered, I was TAG’d to UCSD and graduated there in June with a 3.96. Academic probation wouldn’t have voided the TAG.
