My friends is in deep s h i t. In his second semester as a freshman he was put on academic probation, I think he needs to retake three classes, would that hinder his chances on transferring even if he does retake the classes he failed and receives an A in them? Of course he's GPA would be a lot higher, but wouldn't the college he'll be applying to (UIUC) see that as a turn off as a junior transfer? He really doesn't like the school he's currently at (EIU) so not transferring would be a heart breaker.

if he failed three classes.. how is he going to retake them and get all A's? It isn't always that easy.. if it was just a matter of being lazy and he is going to start working hard i think he'll have a shot if he gets all A's to show he is capable of being able to handle a hard courseload.

failing three classes....hmm.....the first time I tried to transfer I was unwittingly on academic probation (I hadn't received my first term grades until I'd already sent in my applications)...I'd gotten a marginal pass in a sculpture class, and it's my school's policy to put anyone with an MP on probation. I was automatically rejected from the schools, even though the class was taken on top of a full course load, it didn't effect my GPA (as I had, perhaps foreseeing my inaptitude for sculpture, had requested to take it on pass/fail) and although my academic major had nothing to do with the visual arts.

Next year I applied again (after having completed a term of straight A's and no art, I was removed from probation)and lo & behold, I was accepted into every school I applied to, including those that had rejected me the first time around. So...there if there are extenuating circumstances, I think colleges are open to them.

Don't know if that helped. I'm at work and I'm bored and I love telling the story of the sculpture debacle.

Nottingham? Like Uni nottingham? Like Robin Hood?

If he does take those three classes he'll have no choice but to ace them.
