Academic Probation

what happens if you're on academic probation? im a bio major and i got lower than 2.0 gpa my first quarter and i'm worried they'll kick me out. im repeating chem 1a cus i got a D and im taking humcore.

I signed up so I could reply to this. I’d like to know too. I also got a sad gpa last quarter but it wasn’t my first quarter. it’s my second year. I’m hoping to see the counselors the first week of school but I noticed they don’t have appointments till the 2nd week. is a 15 min walk-in enough? if you don’t come in to see them, would they call you up eventually? just curious. really nervous btw.

i came in undecided/undeclared and for the unit assignment, i still wasn’t completely sure so i just put bio sci (ugh) and i got an email in the end of the year during the summer to come in and sign an academic probation contract. one of the counselors just said it was because i wasn’t working towards my bio degree, which was true because i wasn’t taking any bio classes. so, you have a few options. you can withdraw, do a change of major or i think raise your grades? not completely sure about the last one but i assume that would be the third option. i chose the second, which was to change my major and so i signed the contract and from that point, i have a year to fulfill the requirements of my other major (bus. econ, which i already took a few courses on anyways). so yeahh

to the OP, i think if you don’t improve, they can disquality you from the university. just try to keep it above!

Munstar, my apt was probably 15 minutes, more or less. it’s really quick. i didn’t think anything of academic probation until i received an email from them indicating i had to make an apt with them…

hope that helps…

First off, it depends how “bad” your GPA is. If it’s above 1.5 (but below 2.0) then you’ll be given a warning. You’ll discuss with your counselor and hopefully be given suggestions for improvement.

Just hope that next quarter you’ll get above a 2.0 both quarterly and cummulative GPA to get off probation. My advice is to take breath classes to have an easier time trying to get off probation, and try to take fewer units. Good luck.
