Academic Qualifications For Specific Major/Program

My 2nd son is a rising junior in high school this coming fall. We are already researching for him since his desire is a degree in Computer Science. Since I was a kid I remember SBU as a high tier engineering school and I wanted to attend but family issues prevented that. I’m delighted to hear that my 2nd son is now considering applying to SBU and I want to try to make it happen but I’m worried about his academic qualifications.

Since he just got a 1200 on his PSAT it appears that his SAT will be estimated in the 1300 range. Is there a way I can find out what the average SAT application acceptance was for an intended major of Computer Science? Is there some link somewhere that shows what the typical CompSci student got in his SAT?

I’ve looked at the common data set but it only lists the average SAT for all students. My reason for asking is not only because I’d like him to be accepted but also because I wonder if the level of rigor would be evenly matched with his abilities.

Thank you.

The general rule of thumb for majors in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences is that their stats should be around the top 25%, especially for standardized testing. And a high SAT or ACT score can negate a slightly lower GPA. A 1300 isn’t a guarantee for CS, but he has a good chance especially if his math score was high (700+).
As a reference, admission to the CS Honors program requires a 1430 SAT and a 93+ unweighed average
