Hi there guys. I’m a second year CC student in a college in the bay area. I want to apply for tag next year but heres the deal. I took pre cal and got a D and then repeated it twice and got Ds again due to foolishness. Basically have 3 Ds in it. I did good in my other classes (Bs and As )I’m majoring in Computer Science and it is not a requirement for my major. I asked the math departments Head to clear the pre req and allow me to take calculus 1( im doing good in it as im actually paying attention and studying for it and hopefully will pass with a good grade). Now the thing is that the 3 D grades have my gpa to a 2.2( without them it is a 3.25) and to TAG to UC Davis i need a 3.2. I can apply for Academic renewal in this summer as a year will have passed and i will be done with more than 15 required units. I have 4 W grades (2 in ged classes which i didn’t even need to take). The tag page says that no grade less than C is acceptable. My question is that won’t academic renewal negate the 3 Ds from my GPA, thus won’t count towards my transferrable courses? Will it allow me to Fulfill my tag agreement as technically the 3 Ds wont be transferred ? And lastly how much will it and my W grades affect my transfer chances to places lile UC Irvine/ San Diego if i keep getting good grades and not drop classes?

Thank you !!
Yes. Grades that are academically renewed do not affect your UC transferable GPA and you will be able to TAG to UC Davis, given that you meet the GPA & class requirements. I’ve read somewhere that W’s only affect you if you have ALOT (like 10 or more), but if it’s only four you should be fine. You should try not dropping any more classes just to be safe.
Also, UC San Diego’s computer science is very impacted right now and trying transferring in with less than 3.8 maybe verrrrryy hard.
Good luck & and I’m also a Computer Science major applying to schools currently.
Thank you so much! Its a relief I’ll just make sure I don’t drop any more classes and meet davis’ prereqs and Have a gpa higher than required iA.
Good luck and i hope you get into your desired achool :)!
Yes, but in terms of GPA, they’re only counting one D, as the previous Ds were replaced with a new grade (in this case, another D). Just so you know, in case a person chose to keep the D.
Now in terms of AR, you will need to AR all three, because removing the last D reactivates the previous D, and so on.
Oh yeah I read that but my college is counting all three in my gpa until i AR.
So if I AR on all three pre cal Ds(15 units in total, i can AR upto 24 so its good) will AR negate all three in my gpa thus not counting any pre cal grade in my GPA calculation??
Thanks for the heads up!
