Hey guys,
I’ve been in CC for 4 years now. I’ll be receiving 3 degrees (wasn’t sure what I wanted to do so I just did several things lol.) at the end of this semester. I applied to several schools as a transfer with an AA-T in COMM, GPA of 2.9, and got rejected from all but one (which so happened to be the one where my AA-T was not aligned with the major I choose). I applied to SDSU (I’m from San Diego and go to Southwestern College so I’m local), CSUN, Cal Poly Pomona (I got wait listed but was recently denied), and CSUF. Anyway, my application got forwarded to CSUCI and that’s where I’m currently planning to go for the upcoming semester.
My question is, I took a second semester language class (jap) on the insistence of my counselor who said it was required to transfer, and found out after the W date had passed that I didn’t need the class. I was having some family issues that semester that really affected my ability to study for the class and in the end received a D in the course, I couldn’t really prove it since It wasn’t directly related to me, but I was affected immensely by it. Since it’s a language course it was a hefty 5 credits. Now before that I had been on the 3.5 VP honor roll for a couple semesters, the semester before I took the language class my overall GPA was 3.2 and was slowly rising after getting less then stellar grades my first and second semester at school, and after taking the class my GPA tanked down to the 2.9 range. My school requires at least 2 years to have passed before applying for academic renewal which will be this upcoming fall. Now, since I’m planning to attend csuci is it even worth it to get that grade dropped? Like, after it gets dropped am I able to update my transcript with csuci and will that help me boost my gpa at csuci since I’m assuming my gpa transfers over to the school. I’ve also been thinking about reapplying to the other schools for spring or next fall. Will getting an academic renewal and getting that grade removed improve my chances to get into the schools? If I get the academic renewal removed my gpa will be for sure back up over a 3.5 (I got straight A’s this semester).

There’s the petition form with all the requirements for academic renewal. From what I gather I’ll be able to ask for academic renewal of just the one course, or can I choose up to 9 credits to be renewed? Do they have to be in the same semester? Thanks!
