<p>there are major-specific required courses, so it's still hard to say
you have to take a minmum of 6 semesters of humanities, 2 semesters of writing (can skip 1 semester with 5 on AP eng lit or lang), one semester of american cultures class
there's also a thing called the series requirement. you have to take two semesters of upper division humanities in the same department or one lower div + one upper div in the same department (ie classics 28 + classics 104 or classics 103 + classics 104 (just an example. i don't even know if classics 103 & 104 exist))
all the humanities i mentioned above count for the 6 semesters of humanities classes, so if you plan carefully, you can settle with 6. of course you're free to take more.
other than that, it depends on your major. i think mechE and chemE have 15 or so required classes not counting humanities.</p>
