My daughter is a rower, captain of her team, with an erg score of 7.44 (last spring, will continue to drop), act 24 (she’s recently retaken it, results forthcoming), gpa 3.425 unweighted and 3.625 weighted with 7 ap classes, good international medicine internship experience. She will only go to a college with a rowing program and Wants to row for her full 4 years.
She is hoping to make it into one of the competitive liberal arts colleges (Wesleyan, Hamilton, Trinity, e.g.) and is also wondering about the Ivies, but feels she probably doesn’t have a chance due to her academic record.
Is there anyone out there with experience with these schools and their rowing programs when the grades aren’t stellar? We’re also hoping to be

To continue:
We’re also hoping to be able to apply early decision and to make a few official visits and unofficial visits in the coming weeks (she’s already visited most of the schools on her list).
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I used two estimates SAT subject test scores of 700 and plugged her stats into the College Confidential Academic Index Calculator. The number I calculated was a 195 out of 240. I used 1650 as the SAT equivalent score for the 24 on the ACT. 195 is extremely low for a non-revenue generating sport. It is likely she would need at least a 210 for the Ivies. I have no idea if her erg score is any good, I’m just talking about academics. If she scores a 30 on the ACT and has two 700s on subjects her AI scores goes to 207.
Again, this says nothing about her athletic ability.
Thanks for the notes about her Academic Index number. Results from the new act test should arrive in a few weeks. Fingers crossed. The rowing component is interesting…Berkeley has expressed interest, and they’re ranked in the top three for div I, but it’s all just beginning now… UW has invited her for an official visit (also a top div I team), but we can’t afford it as an out of state resident and scholarship, in her case, wouldn’t be clear until she’d already begun the year. UW only commits big money in advance to recruits who are top draft picks, and although she’s a good solid rower, she’s not a top draft pick. What’s interesting here is that only Brown is ranked higher than UW and Berkeley, but it seems that the Ivies (and what about the Little Ivies?) have less flexibility with Ac. Index. Also, rowers tend to have a solid Ac. Index.
