Academic Scholarship at Northeastern???

I plan to apply to Northeastern but I don't think my family qualifies for financial aid...or a considerable amount anyway. We are middle class and make a decent living, but its the savings and assets I guess that do us in.
I would be depending on academic/merit scholarship to make things worthwhile for me.
Here are my stats:

GPA - Weighted: 4.62

SAT I Critical Reading: 690

SAT II Biology - M: 720

Extracurriculars:

Significant Extracurriculars: Science Club, World Affairs Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Model United Nations, NJHS (9th), Concert Band (9th), National Honor Society, Independent study of French 4 (Got an A on Final)

I don't have any volunteer work at the moment...do you think that hurts me? Would starting up some volunteer work now until help by the time I apply?
Do you think I could get the Trustee scholarship or any other considerable scholarship?
Thanks for any info/insight you can provide!

You should get a scholarship, I would say a minimum of 15K. A lot of it is also going to depend on what major you are applying for.

I dont think adding volunteer time is going to make the difference. I think the difference will come in how much you show interest in the program that you are applying to. That could be going on more than one tour, trying to meet with a professor, etc. Schools, especially Northeastern, track how many points of contact there are with each applicant. The more points of contact the larger the likelihood of you attending is. Thus, the more likely they are to give a good student a good scholarship.

ditto everything that swimchris said. NEU llikes to see interest in the school.

Agreed but in the past (at least to my knowledge) the top non full ride merits were 16K per year. In order to get above that amount yuu had to meet some specific criteria. Some of the full rides are very specific i.e. attended Boston Public School.
the OP should go to NEU’s website and read all of the information about scholarships carefully.

I had similar stats, ever so slightly higher SAT score. I got 14k per year, so you should def get merit aid! But I cannot stress this enough… APPLY EARLY ACTION!!

in response to ebeee’s comment. IN the past 16k a year was the highest, not sure if that has changed, but there are other legacy scholarships that are awarded, not sure how comon these are. These are not listed on the website… anywhere. My d got the max of 16k at that time plus a legacy. Brought the cost down below our state school.

Similar story… a friend’s son received merit aid from Tufts… Tufts! who claims not to give merit aid… in the amount of 12k per year! Nothing applied for, not need based.

There is money where the profile/demand fits for certain students at specific schools.

I had a slightly higher ACT and slightly lower GPA and got 14k.
