Our daughter was admitted to LAS December 24th 2014; any info on when the U sends out scholarship letters - or how soon after being admitted?
D got her scholarship letter in the mail 2 weeks after she was accepted.
It is a mystery how they communicate scholarship info. I have watched this topic for 4 years and many kids do not learn of their merit award until February.
@kajon I wonder if that’s because some initial awards were turned down as people got into their ED program elsewhere, etc. So the money becomes available for other students. We’re kinda hoping for that scenario w/r/t honors college
My son has not heard anything yet, and it has been a month and a half. I don’t think there is any rhyme or reason. I would be pretty shocked if he didn’t receive anything. He was invited to honors very soon after being accepted.
I got my acceptance letter and scholarship letter together in November and my honors college invitation came over Thanksgiving break, so I’d expect that they’re either done giving them out or only giving more out when people reject their acceptance that received one. If you’re curious, I’d suggest asking the admissions office, they’re very helpful and are the only admissions office that has replied back to any of my emails within a day of sending them, so they obviously care a lot about the students.
I was accepted over 2 months ago, got into Honors over a month ago, and I’m still waiting for merit scholarships. A friend with similar stats applied 3 months before me, and he got around $15k total yearly.
Hang in there. 3 years ago my son (in state) received his acceptance 11/8, honors 11/24 and didn’t hear anything about merit scholarships until 2/17 and he did very well.
The booklet says that notification of any competitive academic merit scholarships would be out in March, not sure if there’s different scholarships we should be waiting for… I was a accepted today (!!!) and am wondering when I should expect it…
Congratulations to those who have heard about their merit scholarships. What are the requirements to maintain the scholarship? Is there a GPA required, or just satisfactory academic progress?
Does the university mail the scholarship decisions? Or do they sent it in email as well? Same for admission decisions and honors program decisions. Do we get an email first?
I don’t know about e-mail notification as S never checks his (big SIGH.) Someone else can answer that.
Admissions appears on tracker and then a big packet comes to the house soon after.
Honors admission appears on the tracker in a box below the admission decision box. About a week later a post mail letter is delivered with a pamphlet about the program.
Scholarships, at least the type my kids received(NMF), do not appear on tracker at all, but a largish envelope that is labelled all over on the outside ‘Congratulations on your scholarship!’ is mailed to the house.
@celesteroberts Thank you so much! I emailed the admission office my new address…Hopefully I receive the materials soon.
