Academic Scholarships

Hey, I was wondering how common non-need based scholarships are, and some of the different qualifications for them. Have you heard of students getting a full-ride (or a big %)? I know Ivy's arent allowed to give academic scholarships, but since MIT is just outside of it, do they have them?

Uh....no. Their response is that everyone at MIT would qualify for a merit-based scholarship. It's need based or nothing.....

......and instead of posting the same question on various boards around CC, why don't you go onto the websites for the colleges themselves and go to their financial aid pages. Most will have complete descriptions of what merit aid they offer.

I know that it is possible to find on the websites, but the whole point of CC is to get students opinions of how selective it may be. Sometimes, a school's opinion can be misleading, and I really value the opinion of the students that actually go there. Also, other people who are interested in it can learn from it.

Yes, but when a school says "we don't give merit-based scholarships", it really doesn't matter at all what anyone else's opinion is... they just don't give them out.

Yeah, this isn't exactly an opinion question. MIT gives need-based aid only, admits in a need-blind fashion, and will meet full financial need of all admitted students (as determined by the financial aid office).

MIT does not give any merit scholarships, but if you have an outside merit scholarship, you are welcome to use it to pay for your MIT education.
